Corrosion on Galvanized Steel Structure
Today I’m sharing knowledge about the
corrosion of galvanized steel structure. It’s noticed during my site surveillance
that contractor installed/ erected the structure for Smoking Shelter and Workshop
Shelter Buildings.
- What’s the Galvanized Steel Structure?
- Galvanizing the process to apply the protective zinc
coating at the steel structure/ equipment in order to protect the steel structure/
equipment from rust and corrosion.

- Corrosion of Steel Structure
Some pictures of corrosion/ rusted appear on streel structure after some time of erection/ installation, it's the different reason for corrosion/ rust.
- Does the galvanized steel rust?
- Yes, Galvanized steel resistant to rust
corrosion depends on the type and thickness of the protective galvanized
coating, but the type of corrosive environment is also a big factor.
- Factors that rust/ corrosion the galvanized steel
structure/ equipment
- Sodium chloride (salt) in water or air
- Wet or soaked environments
- Relative humidity above 60%
- Plaster cement containing the chloride and sulfate
- Poor zinc coating at the structure
- Rainwater containing acid
- Acidic foods and drinks
